Materials
- PVC hardfoam board
- Box cutter
- Modelling clay (in my case Fimo Air Natural)
- Filling paste
- Acrylic varnish / acrylic paint
I
had no backup for my photos, so nearly all of the photos that I made
during my work process are gone. Shame on me. Therefore I hope that
photos of the finished piece as well as my descriptions suffice for a
comprehensible tutorial.
First, you should start off with a blueprint of the sword. With the help
of the official artwork I sketched my own blueprint which I later
transferred onto the PVC hardfoam board. I cut out the sword with the
help of a box cutter and smoothed out the edges with sandpaper.
Moreover, the lower edge of the sword should to be tapered, which can
also be seen in my blueprint.
I made the hilt out of Fimo Air Natural air-drying modelling clay. Once it is dry, the clay has a wood-like finish, so I thought it would make a great hilt. Make sure that you let it dry completely before you continue to work on it, because the clay will shrink up a bit. Once the clay has dried, you'll most likely find a few cracks here and there. Use the filling paste to fill them up and smooth out the whole thing with sandpaper once the filling paste has dried.
Once the hilt is done, the sword is ready to be painted. I coated the blade with silver acrylic varnish and used acrylic paint for the hilt because I could not find a varnish in the right color.
