Amaterasu Ōkami Work Log

It was a little difficult to design this costume since Amaterasu isn't exactly human. I drew different drafts for the costume, but this is my final draft. I tried to implement Amaterasus distinctive features, such as her Divine Retribution, her wolf ears and the red markings on her fur. Since Amaterasu is traditionally japanese, I designed her costume to look a bit like a kimono. To make clear that Ammy is actually a wolf, I hemmed the edges of the costume with fake white fur.
I made Ammy's Devine Retribution out of several craft foam circles. After glueing the circles together, I cut a few styrofoam balls in half and glued them to the craft foam circles. To give the whole thing an antique look, I covered it with a layer of newspaper and glue. When it was dry, I painted the mirror with acrylic paint and added a few strips of organza fabric.

I bought the wig from a US wig shop called Epic Cosplay. The style of the wig is called Dionysus and measures 24". Epic Cosplay's wig quality is top notch, but you have to keep in mind that you'll have to pay quite a bit of shipping costs if you're not from the US. Plus, the wig might get stuck at the customhouse.
I made all the accessories for the wig by myself. I made the ears out of craft foam and covered them with white felt and fake white fur. The red symbol on the forehead is also made of craft foam. The bow is made of a red-gold ribbon and some wooden pearls which I painted green. All accessories are attached with hairclips so that they can be completely removed from the wig. That means I can use it for other cosplays, too :)
I made the armlets out of fake white fur and the same red fabric which I used for the costume. The design of the necklace is based on Amaterasu's Exorcism Beads. It is made of fimo clay and a leather strap.
The cosplay makeup is based on Ammy's original artwork. Here you can find a detailed tutorial. The contact lenses are called EOS Dolly Eye Brown.
The brush is made of a cardboard tube, newspaper, craft foam and fake fur. If you want to know exactly how I made it, you can find a tutorial on my blog.
