Skyward Sword Zelda Work Log

Well, this isn't exactly my first cosplay, but it's the first one that I'm willing to show. I did have one or two cosplays before this one, but they were either store bought or very badly made. Well, after a lot of practice I decided to try again and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. It definitely isn't perfect, but I plan on improving a few details before wearing it again.
Unfortunately I don't really have photos that show my work in progress as I didn't plan on publishing my cosplay at first, so I hope you get the general idea from my descriptions.
The dress is made of pink jersey. I didn't have a pattern for the dress, so I made my own out of a similar dress that I already had in my closet. The golden patterns are painted on with fabric paint. I made the blue gem out of model magic. When it was completely dry, I painted it with blue acrylic paint, finished it off with a clear acrylic gloss and glued it to the dress with fabric glue.

Technically, the sailcloth is a rectangular piece of fabric, but I found that it doesn't look really nice when it is tied around the shoulders as you'll end up with a giant knot in the back of the dress. Instead I made the sailcloth a bit rounder. For the blue design on the back, I first tied the cloth around my shoulders and marked where I wanted it to be. Then I painted it on with blue fabric paint. I found the pattern of the design somewhere on deviantart, but I'm not sure where exactly I got it from.
The golden belt is made of craft foam circles and styrofoam balls which I cut in half and then glued onto the middle of the circles. Then I painted the whole thing with acrylic paint. For the brown belt I used some leftover fabric that I had in my fabric box. The silver thingy is also made of craft foam and silver acrylic paint. The blue gem is made just like the one on the dress. For the blue cloth that is attached to the brown belt, I used a light blue cotton fabric which i painted according to the design of the original artwork.
For the wig I got a cheap one off of ebay and styled it accordingly. First I had absolutely no idea how to put the ribbons on the wig. After a lot of trial and error I sewed a tube of fabric inside the two front strands to give them more volume and sewed the ribbons onto that piece of fabric. That way they don't move around.
The bangles are just a pair of wooden bangles which I painted green with some acrylic paint. The white pants are a cheap pair of leggings which I bought at H&M. I got my elf ears from Aradani Costumes. They're not exactly the cheapest ears you can find, but I really like their quality. Nowadays I would probably buy them from German cosplay supply stores, but they were very rare when I got into cosplay.
